Lacoste is one of the most famous polo brands in the world, which unfortunately means it’s also one of the most duplicated. Here are some tips on how to spot the real thing.

1
The first thing to look at is the Lacoste crocodile logo patch. A genuine Lacoste crocodile should show scales, claws, and teeth. For the men’s polo shirts, the crocodile is embroidered on a patch then sewn onto the shirt, not directly into the shirt. In the women’s, it is printed onto the shirt.

Step 2Real Lacoste polos are 100% cotton. Fake polos are made of heavier and partially synthetic fabrics. The wash tag should say Devanlay at the top.

Step 3The buttons on real Lacoste polos are made of Mother of Pearl. Thus, no two buttons are alike. The buttons will not be inscribed with the Lacoste name or logo. Fake polos may have plastic buttons and will often have ‘Lacoste’ printed on them or a crocodile logo.

Step 4The size should be a European size (i.e. 36, 38, 40, etc), not in US sizes of S, M, L.

Step 5On true Lacoste men’s polos the crocodile logo will be on the left-hand side lined up between the bottom stitching and the bottom button. In fakes, the crocodile is often aligned wth the bottom stitching. On true Lacoste women’s polos, the crocodile log will be on the left-hand side lined up with the bottom stitching.

Step 6If you can inspect the polo, look at the stitching. Real Lacoste polos will not have loose stitching and the stitching will be of excellent quality. The material will be soft cotton, but not thin.
