Hi, I  have been the victim of fake Golf Pride Grips. I was lucky enough to get my money back from the seller but I wish to share my knowledge so other people can recognise them - A) The first thing I noticed about the fake grips was they did not have the tacky feel in the soft red rubber part. There meant to be multi compound and the fakes were just the same compound. B) The seller sent me an extra grip by mistake so I putt onto the club and all the colours started running off onto my handRead More...

I have recently purchased an Odyssey White Hot XG Sabertooth Putter. The putter turned out to be a fake. This was confirmed by Callaway Customer Services. I cannot stress enough, if you are thinking about buying ANY golf club, PLEASE ask the seller for the serial number of the club and check it out with the manufacturer. Please also bear in mind though that the smarter scammer can always clone genuine serial numbers, so even this is no guarentee. the seller was retailersmk90 and email addressRead More...

Dont be fooled by a cheap deal on ebay with the callaway x20s.  I perchused these for £198 thinking they were the real deal but when i saw that they were from china i soon thought there could be a possibilty of them being fakes.   I then compared the clubs with various pictures online and thought there were a few different things on the club from: the face of the club, this is coloured in black when it should be white. Also the grip was a touch different.   There should also be a serial nRead More...

I bought a an Odyssey Tri-Ball Putter from E-bay in Jul 07.  The putter fell apart in Aug 07 and I took it to be fixed, where I was told that it was an extremely good fake. The other guides that are available but I would add just one thing ask the seller for a photo of the actual club they are selling with a tabloid newspaper next to it that ia up to date. The putter I bought only had two things that proved it was a fake and that was the titainum face was raised off the white face and the WRead More...

Bought a set of three callaway x-tour chrome wedges and gave them away in a tournament. One of the guys who won one was a lefty so I took it to Deboer’s golf shop to exchange it for a left handed one. When we looked at it they said they wouldn’t exchange becaused it was a fake and four of us looked at it in detail and here are the findings.   1. Clubs came with heads and grips shrinkwrapped. 2. Grip was very spongy feeling and ink on lettering was sloppy. 3. Grip on backwards. 4.Read More...

Be careful if a deal looks too good to believe…it probably is!! There are loads of Callaway forgeries around now and they do look very convincing. They are manufactured in China and here’s some of the things to look for.. 1. Shaft decal on upper side of shaft (especially on Project X shafts) 2. Grips too thin 3. Grips upside down (ridge on upper side) 4. Ferules too small 5. Leading edge profile rounded instead of straight 6. Club head finish slightly different to “real̶Read More...

This is an interesting question and is actually more complex than it initially sounds. First, there is a big difference between clones and fakes. Clones are often made by the same factories that make the name brand clubs. But regardless of where they are made, the specs are similar or exactly the same as the branded club they are trying to emulate. However, clones will never be marketed under false pretenses. For example, a Callaway clone will never be marketed as a Callaway. Markings and labRead More...
